I’m so sick of hating all my friends
But I’m too lazy to get new ones
If you’re pretty sure you’ve heard this one before, you’re better off not being alone today. Thankfully, the Bombpops feel your pain, and would love to keep you company with “Dear Beer,” a “sad song with a funny title,” according to guitarist/vocalicst Poli van Dam. She says the title represents the song’s manic duality, and paints “a sordid tale of unrealistic expectations and high hopes” that can lead to “apathy and disappointment.”
Since nobody likes a fucking downer, the song sounds and feels super happy and uplifting, so it could very well cheer up your bad mood today. If you’re in a good mood, congrats! Please share this with somebody who isn’t.
The tune is the first track on a brand spanking new EP, coincidentally called Dear Beer, coming April 6 from the respectable citizens over at Fat Wreck Chords. Dear Beer, available for pre-order on colored 7-inch vinyl and digital, builds on the fun-as-hell poppy hooks of the Bombpops’ 2017 debut album, Fear of Missing Out — which was a decade in the making — with a more mature tone and a palpable sense of urgency.
The band spent last year on the road alongside the likes of NOFX and the Descendents, and show no signs of slowing down with the release of the Dear Beer EP: They head over to Europe this May, and promise plentiful tour dates to come in 2018. At this rate, can a new album be too far off?
See? We’re feeling better already.
